Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is a standalone multiplayer game in which players wage war as Axis or Allies in team-based combat. In Enemy Territory Axis and Allied teams do battle in traditional single scenarios, or wage war through a series of linked scenarios in a totally new campaign mode. During combat players gain experience and skill, and through battlefield promotions are awarded additional abilities that remain persistent across an entire campaign. Additionally, new character classes like the Covert OpS as well as an enhanced Engineer allow teams to perform reconnaissance, steal enemy uniforms, and construct battlefield structures and military installations in the midst of combat to gain tactical advantages for their team. All new game modes, maps and communication abilities require players and teams to develop advanced strategies and tactics in the struggle for front line domination.

The game is unique in the way that people can jump from roof to roof, power slide down stairs, take brutal amounts of damage, and yet it all feels... believable. Urban Terror does the team based shooter genre well. The reds are locked in war with the blues. The addition of a stamina bar, trick jumps, and intuitive controls makes for good gaming. Players define their gear load outs, choosing from a variety of pistols, rifles, machine guns and grenades. Gear load outs also effect stamina use, meaning a machine gunner with full body armor is not very nimble. Wounds bleed until bandaged, adding a new consideration to game pacing.
