Hi, i need to put in the frontend something like a drop down menu to select in which Group add the user we are going to create.

Is there a hack i could use to achieve it?

It must be possible to alter the code to do that. It crossed my mind when i was programming the component. But in Joomla 1.6/1.7 there also are custom usergroups to consider. So it was to complicated to make this and it can also be a security problem.

Because if the usergroupid is loaded from a hidden input field on the form and not from within the components parameters the user might be able to alter the groupid on submit. (There are little tools to alter the data of a form you have just submitted) This would mean that the users could add superadmins when they are not supposed to be doing that.

The easyest way to achieve what you want is to add a menu called: add users. In this menu you add multiple links to the add user frontend component. Like Add registered, add author, add publisher. Now you can configure the different links to the component on menu level. You can click on the menuitem in the menu manager backend and then click on the components parameters. There you can configure add user frontend to behave differently based on the menuitem you are clicking.

Thanks for the really prompt reply. Your solution looks smart but i feel a little dumb.
When i choose the menu item in the menu manager i dont see any way to change the component parameters, i have only:

- Link Type Options
- Page Display Options
- Metadata Options
- Module Assignment for this Menu Item

To have access to the component parameters i need to exit from the menu item page and go in component->Add user Frontend->Options, but there I'll set them for all the site.

What am i missing?

Well i see we have a problem here. In Joomla 1.5 this works. But in Joomla 1.7 the components parameters arent visible for some reason. I think there is a bug which i didnt see when i was upgrading the component from J1.5 to J1.7.

I have been looking to find what is wrong but i didnt find it yet. I will let you know if i can find whats causing this and how to fix it.

Hey,
I found the problem. Something changed in joomla 1.6/1.7. This caused the parameters by menuitem to be unavailable. I found some other problems which i also fixed.

And then i needed to fix these problems in 4 other components i have made which are based on the same code. This means i was busy. I fixed all and updated the files and version numbers in the joomla extension directory.

You can now proceed to the download page and download Add user frontend version 1.2.8: http://www.ghanja.be/en/downloads/components/add-user-frontend/details.html

With this version you will be able to configure the component based on the menu item. This means you can run different instances of the component using different parameters.

So if all is okay you should be able to do what i told you in my previous post.
